Offshore Europe Success

27.09.11

A marketing investment in attending the prestigious Offshore Europe exhibition is reaping rewards for Hadar Lighting, part of the Ashington-based A-Belco Group, with enquiries and actual orders resulting from the show already into six figures.

Bill Armstrong, Hadar's Sales Director, commented, "Exhibitions are a good way for us to support our distributors and meet both existing and new customers and Offshore Europe is one of the biggest events within the sector. We chose the event to launch our new LED emergency floodlights, the HDL106E, and were extremely pleased with the results. There was a great deal of interest in all the products but especially the LED floodlights and particularly the new emergency model which has been specifically designed for stairwells, muster areas, lifeboat stations and other critical Zone 1 & 2 hazardous areas which require light even when normal power supplies fail."

Offshore Europe 2011, held in Aberdeen, attracted 32,025 unique visitors over the three days between September 6th and 8th. Over 1,500 exhibitors from all over the world had stands at the vast show, covering some 25,000 square metres with almost 15,000 people visiting the show on the first day alone.

Bill Armstrong continued, “We were first to market with LED floodlights certified for Zone 1 hazardous areas last year. The Gorgon project in Australia, where we modified the floodlights slightly to make them even more environmentally friendly, produced a massive order which was the catalyst for the further development of the range. Since then we have created a new purpose built, dedicated manufacturing cell recruiting additional staff to meet the global demand."

"The important criteria in deciding emergency lights is the amount of power required when a finite supply is available to achieve maximum light and here the new lights have proved themselves to offer the perfect match of low power usage for high light levels. In addition, they are rugged, easy to fit without costly re-wires and low maintenance, so are ideal for the offshore sector. These and other advantages that these LED’s have over traditional lights mean that they are now being fitted on an increasing number of drilling rigs throughout the world."

The new lights are SIRA,  ATEX and IEC Ex certified for Hazardous Areas Zone 1 and 2 applications. The units can be set up in single, double or even triple arrays with the amount of light generated able to be pre-set dependant on requirements and, at just 9kgs weight, they are lightweight and can handle the vibrations on offshore platforms, rigs and marine vessels which necessitate constant maintenance for traditional emergency lighting.

Bill Armstrong concluded, "The exhibition was a huge success for ourselves and we're looking forward to a very busy time in production and converting these enquiries into further orders."
