Hadar Lights The Way For Charity Ride

27.06.12

Sponsorship from Hadar Lighting, part of the Ashington-based A-Belco Group, is helping six intrepid NE cyclists reach their target of raising £6,000 for charity by riding the Reivers Cycle Route from Tynemouth to Whitehaven via the Cheviots and then back again via the Coast to Coast Route across the Pennines.

Riding the 500km in under 5 days would be a test even for experienced cyclists, yet the men of Teamdinga are just starting their cycling careers but already confident of their ability to complete the grueling course.

Team Leader, Keith Bell, said, "We're basically a group of mates from Alnwick, Shilbottle and Lesbury who meet in the old Market Tavern and have been raising money for six fantastic charities for many years after a mutual friend died from Cystic Fibrosis. It's a fair comment that we may not be the fittest riders to have attempted this but we will be giving it our very best shot and have never failed in any of other other charity challenges!"

"We've already planned next year's adventure, cycling from London to Paris, so we're confident that we can complete this and raise the money for six fantastic charities - Help for Heroes, Prostrate Cancer Charity, Meningitis UK, Cystic Fibrosis Trust, the Pink Ribbon Foundation and the British Heart Foundation."

One of the team members, Simon Bowery, then approached Brian Trench, CEO of the A-Belco Group, for support who readily agreed to sponsor the team. Brian commented, I obviously know Simon and met the other lads and was just really impressed by the amount they have raised over the years for charity without ever taking themselves too seriously. We're a reasonably large local employer in Northumberland who are totally committed to the region so are delighted to help such a worthy effort!"

Teamdinga, consisting of Keith Bell, Tom Poole. Ruari Slater, Brett Slater, Simon Bowery and Daniel Low, with support  crew of Mick Miller and Stuart Knowles sets off from Tynemouth pier at 9.00am on Saturday 7 July, hoping to be back by 4.00pm on Wednesday 11 July.
